STAGE MANAGER - DANCER - TECHNICAL DESIGNER

ABOUT ELIZABETH

Elizabeth Frischling is in love with the process of dance. She is a dancer, choreographer, technical designer, producer, and educator. Art is present in everything she does because it’s what truly brings her joy. She began her own process in New York City, dancing at Ballet Academy East for over a decade. Her technique background led her to improvisation and composition classes at the 92nd Street Y where she choreographed her first (but most definitely not last) piece. While following her choreographic passions, Elizabeth was introduced to technical production and teaching. She has continued creating, supporting, and teaching dance while studying at Skidmore College. Elizabeth got her first professional producing and lighting design job while studying abroad in New Zealand. She plans on continuing to pursue her career in all aspects of the dance world after graduating from Skidmore this spring.

PHILOSOPHY

Dance is more than a performance to me. It is a way of communicating and creating more paths for connection. While I can appreciate a strong finished product, I have found myself more drawn to developing the process in which we get there. Though I grew up with an exclusively technical background, my discovery of improvisation and more emotionally driven movement has guided my interest in dance as a career. I prefer to develop movement through rhythmic exploration and drawing inspiration from varied musical styles, which push me to move in different ways. While I appreciate the control that my technical background provides, I find most satisfaction in embracing the natural flow developed through improvisation. I hope to continue developing this personal process to expand to others and connect dancers through genuine movement exploration. Dance allows for silent voices to be heard, and I hope to encourage collaboration and discussion between artists and audiences.
